A FOND GOODBYE...
For me, the night was going to be special regardless, as this was my first Todd Rundgren show since June 2009 when he toured with Steve Winwood, and my 16th overall. Todd and his band were most definitely on their game Friday night, with Chris Stainton and Paul Carrack being terrific on keyboards. Rock solid on bass was Nathan East, and his wonderful falsetto vocal on "Can't Find My Way Home" stood out. The passing of the torch from one of the best blues guitarists of all time to the next breed seemed to be made possible by four guest performances by John Mayer, Jimmie Vaughn, Derek Trucks, and Doyle Bramhall, who all brought their 'A' game Friday night. Slowhand was as great as ever, with his skills still there, especially noted on his dueling, soaring solos with John Mayer on "Pretending," as well as his acoustic set halfway through the show. Enjoy your retirement, Todd, and thanks for the memories!
